People Who Were There
Sandra Stabler spent her early childhood at Crossways, she has distinct and colourful recollections of the airfield being commisioned and of the Empire Air Day displays.
” One of my earliest memories of the presence of the RAF in our village is of standing just outside my parents’ shop – now known as Tree Stores in Warmwell Road, but at that time just called “Stabler’s” or “the Old Post Office” – waiting for the arrival of THE BAND! This “big” event was obviously to mark the official opening of Warmwell Airfield. The year was 1937 so I would have been about five years old……..”
